Description

The post holder will be an experienced technician preferably with experience of the HE sector, with proven experience in a TV or Radio broadcasting environment as well as location shooting skills.

It is expected that the post holder will be familiar withAdobe Creative Suite including After Effects, Audition and Premiere Pro.

Knowledge of Indesign, Word Press and other digital software is also desirable.

The post holder will be experienced in digital workflows and have a keen, informed take on future developments in this sector.

Demonstrable experience of Multi Camera TV studio production and radio production processes is required, and knowledge of Tricaster and Newsroom software including ENPS and Myriad News is preferable.

It is also a requirement that the post holder engages withthe University's virtual learning environment to enhance the student experience.

The running of workshops and masterclasses, demonstration of processes and participation in external events such as University Open Days are all aspects of this role and as such, some degree of flexibility in terms of working hours is required.


Duties and responsibilities:


  • Demonstrate TV, Radio and Film production processes and techniques as well as the supervision of students in the event of both the attendance and absence of timetabled staff.
  • Produce online learning resources for students utilising NILE.
  • Respond directly to student requests for help/support in respect of their independent learning.
  • Monitor the timetabled use of the studios and other audiovisual equipment under the control of the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology as required.
  • Maintain a general overview of health and safety and ensure the use of safe working practices, including conducting risk assessments and safety audits in accordance with Health and Safety policies.
  • Liaise with all academic staff requiring use of facilities for teaching purposes to ensure that their requirements and appropriate access are addressed.
  • Liaise with IT to maintain any IT provision applicable to the Media and Journalism area.
  • Attend relevant Faculty committees and forums as required.
  • Work closely with students and staff to translate theoretical ideas into practical and/or creative solutions.
  • Ensure the commissioning of new equipment, logging and reporting of faults and monitoring of outcomes and complete purchase orders accordingly.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of or willingness to gain appropriate expertise in specialist Media and Journalism software.
  • Carry out daily and routine maintenance of all equipment, including safety and security of resources ensuring that Media and Journalism specialist spaces are in a clean, tidy and serviceable order at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Monitor and manage Media and Journalism resources to maintain high standards.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of developments within specialist Media and Journalism technologies and source replacement items that are appropriate and competitive.
  • Work with confidence with large or small groups within specialist Media and Journalism environments.
  • Liaise with other technicians in the Faculty and wider University environment.
  • Mentor and assist other technicians as required.
  • Participate in appropriate staff development training.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post which may be required from time to time by the Faculty Dean.

Skills and experience
Ability to provide first line maintenance of TV and Radio studio resources.
An advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including After Effects Audition and Premiere Pro. Knowledge of Indesign, Word Press
HND/Degree in a media discipline and higher degree or broadcast/film/TV industry experience.
Ability to upgrade and foresee maintenance requirements across studios and equipment.
High level skills in industry standard camera, audio, lighting equipment, broadcast studios, and post production workflows
Recent experience of demonstrating or teaching students preferably up to Level 6, to students both individually and groups
Experience of maintaining a safe and healthy working environment
Ability to support learning, teaching and research in the Faculty through demonstrable knowledge of current practice
Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to team work
Ability to motivate students
Ability to think technically and strategically with reference to future development
Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own work / resources to achieve agreed goals; experience of multi-tasking

Additional information
This role is for 3 months and is part time (4 days a week). Ideally the working pattern would be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but there can be some flexibility there.
