    The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

    We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

    These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

    We are looking for a Sustainability & ESG Lead to join our team.

    Where in Wellcome will I be working?

    You will be part of our Sustainability team within Corporate Affairs, reporting to the Associate Director of Sustainability. The Sustainability team works reduce Wellcome's environmental impacts and deliver on our net zero ambitions. The team also develops a strategic approach to a broad set of Environmental Social & Governance (ESG) risks and opportunities for the Wellcome Group.

    What will I be doing?

    You will develop, manage, and maintain projects and tools to drive the improvement of Wellcome's environmental sustainability performance and support the management of a broader set of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) risks and opportunities for Wellcome.

    As Sustainability & ESG Lead, you will:

    • Support developing Wellcome's Environmental Sustainability Strategy, to help deliver on our net zero ambitions with a focus on scope 3 emissions.
    • Develop resources, tools, and guidance to support teams with the adoption of sustainability best practice in their areas (eg Sustainable procurement).
    • Support teams to develop and deliver their local sustainability action plans (eg Procurement, Data & Technology, Global Travel team, Events team, Finance).
    • Work with our Research Funding and others to develop mechanisms to integrate environmental sustainability considerations into our research funding approach.
    • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

    Is this job for me?

    As Sustainability & ESG Lead you will be making a real difference by supporting the development of strategic corporate approach to environmental sustainability and ESG for an iconic organisation. You have a passion for driving positive environmental and social impact and an ability to translate that passion into pragmatic action in a corporate setting, working in collaboration with a diverse range of teams and stakeholders.

    We are looking for someone who :

    • Has Sustainability / ESG experience acquired in a corporate setting.
    • Can engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.
    • Understand ESG corporate frameworks and standards (eg TCFD, SBTi) and their application.
    • Is proficient in data collection, analysis, reporting and use of related software tools.
    • Has relevant training and qualifications in a Sustainability/ESG related discipline.

    Our Hybrid Way of Working

    We understand that our colleagues have commitments and personal interests outside of work and we strive to build a flexible working environment, in which people can perform at their best. We are currently working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from our Euston Road offices (as part of our hybrid Ways of Working) with the remaining 3 days working either remotely or in the office.

    From 1st September 2024 we will move to 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with the remaining 2 days working either remotely or in the office.
