    CHP Electro - Mechanical Maintenance Technician – Natural Gas

    An industry leading Renewable Energy company are looking to recruit a CHP technician experienced in natural gas reciprocating engines.

    We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electro-Mechanical Maintenance technician specializing in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems with a focus on natural gas applications. As a key member of our service team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our CHP systems.

    • Start: Immediately
    • SALARY: £50,000 GROSS PA
    • Location: Birmingham, Banbury, Leicester, Coventry, Northampton, Milton Keynes, North London, North-West London
    • Full access to a company vehicle, laptop and company phone will be provided.
    • Training on MAN engines provided in Germany

    The role:

    The candidate will ideally be skilled and competent in all aspects of mechanical and electrical maintenance on CHP installations and engines with a solid understanding of assembly and disassembly of engine parts according to manufacturer's operating instructions.

    This role is a hybrid role where the person will need to be located around the following areas, Birmingham, Banbury, Leicester, Coventry, Northampton, Milton Keynes, North London, North-West London, as their primary location of work is near here but there will also be other locations across the UK which cover/maintenance will be required.

    You must be able to think on your feet and work both on your own and as part of a team when required. Your knowledge should cover all aspects of basic engine troubleshooting and be competent in-service maintenance and all types of repairs both PPM and reactive issues.

    Job Title: CHP Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician

    Responsibilities and Requirements:

    • Conduct routine services, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities on CHP systems (Reciprocating engines) which use gas as the primary fuel source.
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and mechanical issues in CHP equipment, including engines, generators, pumps, heat exchangers and associated control systems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute scheduled maintenance shutdowns, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system efficiency.
    • Perform upgrades and modifications to CHP systems to enhance their performance, energy efficiency and compliance with industry standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory.
    • Respond promptly to emergency situations, providing rapid and effective solutions to minimise disruptions in CHP system operation.
    • Collaborate with procurement and vendors to source high-quality replacement parts and equipment for CHP systems.
    • Conduct training sessions for junior maintenance staff and assist in developing standard operating procedures.
    • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to proactively implement improvements and ensure compliance.

    Qualifications:

    • NVQ Level 3 (B.TECH) / City and Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance and Engineering, or a related field.
    • Competent and proven experience in engine overhauls and troubleshooting both mechanical and electrical issues on all makes of CHP's/Generators, with a focus on gas applications.
    • Ideally has experience in mechanical and electrical diagnostics and repair of MAN/CAT/MWM Gas (natural, landfill, bio or sewage gas) fed CHP's or diesel generators and auxiliary components such as variable speed drives, 3-way valves, pumps and motors (up to 415V), heat exchanges and associated control systems.
    • Ability to read P&IDs and electrical schematics.
    • Gas safe/Blue flame registered (not a requirement but a bonus)
    • Familiarity with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
    • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who will collaborate effectively and cross-functionally with other business departments.
    • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks to meet maintenance schedules.
    • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations for emergency response.
    • Willingness and ability to work away from home for short periods of time.
