    Job summary

    Thisis an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic paediatric trainee (ST4 orabove) to develop their skills and experience in medical education andeducational leadership, through a focus on undergraduate paediatric education

    Theundergraduate paediatric course or ICU (integrated course unit) is set in Year4 of the five year MBChB programme at the University of Leeds. There are approximately 300 students per yearthat are divided in to 5 ICU groups of 60 students. Each of these ICU groupsrotate into paediatrics over a 6 week period through the academic year. You would be working alongside academic andclinical teams to support the University undergraduate programme for theteaching and assessment of paediatrics and child health. We would look at thepossibility of supporting development with a PGDip in Clinical education and anhonorary lectureship.

    Thispost will be for 2-3 days a week in the paediatric education post duringdaytime working with a full on-call commitment to general paediatrics or apaediatric speciality. Appointed trainees will be able to express a preferencefor the specialty in which they work clinically - the placement cannot beguaranteed, but will be facilitated wherever possible.

    Main duties of the job

    Roledescription:

    Withinthe undergraduate paediatric course

    1. To assist in the general running of thecourse both at an ICU level and for Leeds students.

    2. To help to organise and deliverlectures and seminar teaching, especially in introductory week.

    3. To organise and deliver ward basedclinical teaching.

    4. To assist with tutoring of students, byhelping to recruit, train, support and enthuse tutors, and to take on the leadtutor role where possible.

    5. To assist in provision of pastoral andacademic support to students as necessary within the course (it is helpful tobecome familiar with what is provided by the University and School of Medicine,including Personal Tutor System, Academic SubDean for Year 4, Student SupportTeam, Student Counselling Service, Equality and Diversity Service, mitigationsystem).

    Assessment:

    1. To assist with reviewing assessments atthe end of each 6 week block.

    2. To help to help to prepare the writtenand OSCE examination material in liaison with the Year 4 Assessment Lead, thePaediatric Assessment Lead, and the Paediatric Course Manager.

    Additionallyyou may be involved in the following wider roles:

    1.To help represent paediatrics on the course management team, to support theassessment and moderation process.

    2.To help with Year 4 Theme Day teaching (runs 3 times a year).

    3.Supervision of elective and physician associate students.

    4.To help in keeping the paediatric course materials on the VLE up to date.

    Thisis a fixed-term role for 12 months. The role would be undertaken out oftraining.

    Applicationsmust be discussed with the educational supervisor and training programmedirector (TPD) by the trainee.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Successful completion of MRCPCH by time of interview
  • Experience

  • At least 4 years experience in paediatrics by the time of intended start date
  • Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
