We are looking for a Procurement Specialist (Technology) to join the Rio Tinto Projects team supporting the Simandou Project in the development of a high-grade iron ore deposit in Guinea (Africa).

You will be responsible for managing end-to-end procurement (sourcing) activities for a wide variety of technology solutions and enjoy working in a dynamic, fast paced project environment.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Procurement (Rio Tinto Projects) you will:


  • Assist and advise the IS&T team in respect to procurement of technology solutions and related commercial matters;
  • Work with stakeholders to build visibility of the demand pipeline to allow for improved planning and resource management;
  • Undertake sourcetocontract activities working closely with key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Promote local content opportunities for the Simandou Project and seek to influence engagement of local suppliers;
  • Provide coaching and support to team members in Guinea in respect to technology procurement matters;
  • Support and/or lead negotiation strategies and communication plans for supplier negotiations and meetings;
  • Work with Project Managers and external suppliers for postaward management of contracts.

What you'll bring

  • Strong alignment to Rio Tinto's values of courage, care and curiosity
  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Commerce, Business Administration or related field or a combination of experience (minimum 5 years) and education
  • Proven record of leading procurement activities to drive successful commercial outcomes
  • Understanding of core technology concepts and solutions (e.g. IT software, infrastructure and professional services)
  • Collaborative approach with ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to formulate and present strategy, analysis and business cases
  • Understanding of endtoend procurement processes
  • Negotiation skills and experience in contract negotiations
  • Project management experience, including partnering and influencing stakeholders
  • Proactive with the ability to be autonomous, and contribute to a positive and strong team environment
  • Proficiency in using SAP, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in French in addition to English is highly desirable

Where you'll be working
Rio Tinto's global headquarters is situated in St.

James's Square, in the City of Westminster, London, on the edge of the West End, and is the site of the group's original head office.

Located over several floors, the office is truly a global hub for the business, and is the base for many members of the Executive Committee.

As such, the grade II listed office reflects the vibrancy of the location, although it also overlooks the tranquillity of the only garden square in the district, and is a short walk from Green Park and Piccadilly underground stations.
