    Senior Control Systems Engineer - Norfolk - EV - £70k

    One of my key clients working in the EV / Batteries / Mobility Sector is recruiting for a skilled and motivated Control Systems Engineer to join their Control Systems and Electronics team based in Norfolk.

    This role is to work on projects integrating a retrofit electric powertrain system into existing vehicle platforms. Specifically, you will be responsible for developing the electrical interface to the original vehicle systems, and associated software development. You will also be responsible for configuration and optimisation of the powertrain system software for the application. You will be working across the full life-cycle of each project: initial design, prototype testing and development, production and post-delivery support.

    Responsibilities:

    Electrical architecture design:

    • Design of electrical interface between powertrain system and vehicle systems
    • Modification of powertrain system low-voltage and high-voltage architecture to suit application requirements

    Software design:

    • Development of communications interface between powertrain system and vehicle systems, and associated powertrain system functions
    • Modification of powertrain system software to suit application requirements
    • Ensuring the design satisfies relevant regulatory requirements
    • Support of vehicle build, and commissioning of the electric powertrain system
    • Conducting vehicle function and performance tests, and analysis of results
    • Support of regulatory validation tests
    • Post-delivery support
    • Recording and investigation of faults

    Key Skills & Experience:

    • Degree level qualification in an engineering discipline
    • Use of Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow for embedded software development
    • Use of CAN (Controller Area Network), for communication between vehicle components
    • Electrical schematic design
    • Knowledge of operation of electric vehicle systems:
    • Batteries
    • Motors & inverters
    • DC-DC converters
    • DC & AC ("on-board") charging systems
    • Analysis of vehicle data to validate functional and performance requirements
    • Knowledge of UN ECE Regulation No. 100

    Desirable Skills

    • Use of CAN analysis tools: Vector CANalyzer, Kvaser CANKing, Peak-Systems PCAN-View
    • Use of ECU calibration and programming tools
    • Development of ECU diagnostic functions ("on-board diagnostics")
    • Knowledge of SAE J1939
    • Knowledge of operation of truck & bus brake, suspension and body systems
    • Application of functional safety management (e.g. ISO 26262)
    • Use of Git source-control management (version control)
    • Writing of technical documentation (e.g. technical manuals)
