  • Vacancy ID We are currently recruiting for a temporary Research Finance Advisor to work on site at one of our centrally based deparrtments starting ASAP for approx 12 weeks working 36.5 hrs p/w and paying £15.

66 p/h- Duties:

  • To assist in the post-award management of the life cycle of all research projects in the team

This will include:

  • Initial set up of projects on Oracle Financials. This is a critical part of the business process and it is essential that we have complete information so the project can be set up correctly. Therefore further liaison with the Research Services section and the grantholding academic department may be required. The postholder will be expected to deal with the more complex set ups (mainly FEC and collaborative awards) required by the team.
  • Liaison with academic departments to ensure that the setup data for the project have been correctly entered on Oracle Financials. Continual liaison is then required with departments over the life of the project to provide advice and support, in particular when claims are submitted, or budgets adjusted.
  • Production of Final Expenditure Statements as required, to include a full reconciliation of the Project, which is to be agreed by the Department prior to despatch.
  • Liaison with departments to close finished projects ensuring that the process is completed on time, and that any residual balances are dealt with according to the sponsor's requirements and in line with University policy.
  • To develop knowledge of FEC accounting and reporting, both on the Projects module in Oracle Financials, and in the General Ledger. To be proactive in terms of new procedures and processes that may be required, and to bring these to the attention of the Research Accounts Operations Manager.
  • To be the prime Research Accounts contact point for assigned academic departments, and to provide consistent and visible support. To build relationships with those departments to fully understand their needs and requirements.
  • To provide data as required for the preparation of regular financial management reports on the University's research position.
  • To maintain effective channels of communication with relevant staff at sponsor and partner institutions, and informing the Team Leader and Operations Manager immediately of any concerns. To deal with both internal and external queries, ensuring that these are dealt with effectively or escalated as appropriate. To use judgement to ensure that the Team Leader or Operations Manager are made aware of any issues as they arise.
  • Person specification
    Essential Criteria
  • Experience of working in a complex financial administration function with customer contact.
  • Good accounting experience including proven skills in complex reconciliation, or the demonstrable ability to develop such skills.
  • Evidence of high numeracy (ideally grade A at GCSE Mathematics) and the ability to grasp complex concepts.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills, in particular to an advanced level with spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, and evidence of the ability to manage a wide caseload of projects and academic departments. Evidence of problemsolving skills.
  • TSS workers accrue holiday pay that is equivalent to 38 days per year, this means you accrue a whopping 17.1% in holiday pay for the hours that you work for us.
