This is an exciting opportunity to join the Specialty Secretarial Support Team in the Diabetes and Endocrinology service on a 12 month fixed term contract.


As part of a team you will be responsible for the audio typing and transcription of clinical correspondence within the diabetes and endocrinology service.

You must have excellent keyboard skills, be educated to GCSE standard and have experience in the use of computer systems including Microsoft packages.

Knowledge of Winscribe, Medway PAS, and NOTIS is not essential as training will be provided.

You will be a conscientious and enthusiastic team player with excellent organisational and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

Be part of a team to ensure all clinical correspondence is typed and processed within specified timescales. Completing or escalating actions as required.

You will need to be a fast and accurate audio typist with a sound knowledge of medical terminology. You will also be able to prioritise your workload with constantly changing demands, to meet agreed deadlines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


Accurately transcribing from Winscribe digital dictation and Winscribe Speech Recognition digital dictation, outpatient clinic letters and miscellaneous clinical correspondence to a high standard with specified timescales.

Responsible for the production of discharge summaries, clinical papers and material for publication from either audio or copy typing.

Use judgement and initiative to prioritise the importance/urgency of particular requests within defined guidelines

Undertake daily peer audit of clinical correspondence to ensure a high standard of accuracy and quality of work.

Ability to exchange sensitive or contentious information with diplomacy and in a confidential manner.


Liaising with outpatient administrator regarding appointments and necessary important clinical information to ensure patients are seen on their pathway without delay.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates good keyboard skills
  • 5 GCSE's or equivalent C or above must include English
  • Computer literate to ECDL standard or equivalent.
Experience

  • Proven typing and admin experience
Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working in the NHS and experience using MS Office, Medway PAS and Notis.
