Charity People is collaborating with the University of Oxford's world-leading Law department to offer an aspiring alumni relations or fundraising specialist the chance to learn, grow and hone their philanthropy skills in the role of Development Officer.

  • Permanent contract_
  • Grade 6: £30,502 £36, 386 _per annum with possible extension to £39,745_

About the role:


You'll join one of world's most prestigious Law schools, working directly with leading academics and researchers contributing globally to issues such as human rights, criminology and constitutional law.

There is real opportunity for systemic impact and influencerelating to global issues such as Access and Diversity and AI in relation to the Law.

The department is also currently paving the way for the academic study of Asian Law.

The role of the University's Development Office is to secure philanthropic support.

Working as part of the country's most successful higher education Development team, you'll help to fund the work of academics and researchers with an international reputationfor excellence.

To give you an idea of how this role will look and feel:

  • You'll facilitate leadership gifts up to £50,000, including negotiating and drafting gift letters and deeds; managing donors' financial and due diligence administration
  • Work closely with legal firms and companies to encourage philanthropic support
  • Assist in producing materials for prospects and projects, for example, stewardship reports, cases for support and proposals
  • Develop creative and compelling regular giving campaigns to engage and excite donors
  • Help to create and implement donor and alumni journeys, ensuring memorable experiences

About you:


First and foremost, you'll have an interest in higher education and, in particular, the potential for law to change the world, and protect people and the planet.

You'll ideally already have either fundraising, legacy, sales, business development, alumni relations, or marketing experience.

We're looking for you to be able to positively and confidently engage and build rapport, both in conversation and writing.

We'd also love to see you demonstrate the following skills and qualities:

  • Think strategically and tactically about the relations between potential donors and fundraising goals
  • Emotional intelligence, and the ability to work sensitively with multiple stakeholders
  • Be creative in producing materials, with an understanding of how to articulate projects for donors
  • Able to manage, prioritise and adapt to a diverse workload, meet deadlines, and work calmly under pressure
  • Be curious; eager to learn, develop skills and try new things
