    I have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Generalist to "Head" up the HR department by providing pragmatic and commercial advice to the Directors and managers of the business.


    The current head of HR set up the HR department and has made many positive changes, including a full update all policies, new employee handbook, a new HR system (Staffology), partnering with occupational health providers, bringing in an EAP and focusing on management and supervisor training.

    The incoming Head of HR has a good platform to build upon, and has plenty of opportunity to support, develop and make a difference to the business.


    Whilst the role has a strategic element, 70% of the role is employee relations focussed therefore daily involvement of employee relations meetings, training events and produce and ensure that outcome letters and HR records are robust, and the HR system is correctly updated.

    The job holder works closely with the office manager who manages the monthly payroll.


    Ideally, the successful applicant will have a commercial private sector background, be an experienced people manager and have experience of working with the front and back end of an HR system.

    To support the business with employee relations issues by providing informed, commercial and solutions focussed HR support.

    Salary:
    £45,000 - £55,000 (DOE) + £5,000 car allowance

    Providing solutions focussed proactive HR support and advice in a consultative style, to support the development and commercial objectives of the business


    • Lead on restructures, redundancy and TUPE exercises to ensure that they are compliant with employment law, and HR policy
    • Monitoring the development of employment law and best practice, advising the business on the anticipated impact of changes in the law
    • Recommend updates to HR policies and guidance on best practice in light of changes in the law and communicating changes to managers and staff to ensure legal compliance
    • Responsible for employee relations and coaching managers on all issues including performance management, disciplinary and grievance issues. Preparing cases up to and including Employment Tribunals, with reference to Directors, ACAS, and external legal advice as required
    • Developing effective working relationships with management teams in specific business areas to understand business needs and support these with consistent HR policies/input
    • Provision of workshops in people management processes, including appraisals, absence management and performance management to ensure line managers are up to date on legal requirements and company policies & procedures
    • Ensuring that the Company's HR system Staffology is continually updated and runs effectively liaising with technical support and consultancy as appropriate
    • Ensuring that recruitment processes are followed and that all processes relating to new starters are in place to ensure consistency and legality
    • Working closely with the health and safety and compliance teams to ensure joined up policies and processes and prevent duplication of effort
    • Manage and provide effective development and support to the HR Assistant
    • Providing specific HR research and project work, as required from time to time to investigate/address specific issues/topics (e.g. benchmarking/best practice)
