We have an excellent opportunity for a Budget and Operations Officer within our Governance and Peace Directorate (GPD).

Other responsibilities entailed in this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Acting as the directorate lead in the coordination and monitoring of annual plans, ensuring alignment to the Commonwealth Secretariat's Four-year Strategic Plan;
  • Providing support to the Assistant Secretary-General and the Section Heads in relation to all aspects of programme and project administration, in line with best practice and Secretariat policies and processes;
  • Working closely with the Assistant Secretary-General, Section Heads and Finance to administer the directorate budget management function. This will include preparing the annual budget for review by the Assistant Secretary-General, reconciling programme expenditure with budgets, budget monitoring, commitment control, and advising the Assistant Secretary-General, Section Heads and other relevant departments of the directorate on over or underspend in relation to staff and programme budgets;
  • Producing regular and ad hoc reports and briefings in a timely and accurate fashion to Senior Managers to inform their decision making on any aspect of project activity and progress;
  • Line management of the Programme Assistants and providing support in the delivery of their work;
  • Assuming lead responsibility for office management, and managing and coordinating administrative and logístical arrangements for conferences/meetings. The postholder will be required to provide logístical support at both local and international meetings/conferences.
