An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated therapist with relevant skills and experience to work as a Senior Therapist within the Gallery Team at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.


Gallery Team provides comprehensive assessments and rehabilitation to patients medically stable for discharge, who are presently unable to return to their previous living situation.

Working closely with a senior specialist clinician and ward MDT we enable and equip patients to return home; maximise patients' function to progress to an appropriate discharge pathway as needs change; aim to reduce overall length of stay, having a positive impact on vital continual flow of patients through the hospital.

There are opportunities for proactive therapy driven service development.
Holistic therapy assessment and reablement skills are needed.

Self-management with a positive, open-minded approach to service delivery; enabling positive risk taking where appropriate; and an understanding of discharge planning/local patient flow pathways are essential.

You will be part of an integrated service with high levels of autonomy and flexibility. You must have excellent communication skills - experience of developing others is preferable.

You will need to embrace challenges of this often complex area, knowing you are well supported from a Clinical Lead.

There is also a commitment to some weekend working on Therapy weekend working rotas.

To deliver therapeutic assessment and intervention, acting as a specialist clinician.

To utilise a wide and varied range of therapeutic skills to optimise care for a complex and diverse patient caseload.

To lead on complex discharge planning/ senior decision making in an area with limited specialty specific pathways.

To contribute to Gallery Service development as part of the wider Leadership Team.


To assume responsibility for personal development and supporting the development and supervision of others by CPD (continuing professional development), linked to appraisal.

You will share responsibility for the management and development of band 5 therapists, non-qualified staff and expected to support student placements with a team approach.

KEY RESULT AREAS


To work as a specialist practitioner in the clinical area utilising theoretical knowledge, clinical experience and clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate and amend the treatment plan.

This will include patients with diverse or complex presentations/multi-pathologies in individual or group therapy sessions.

Working as an autonomous practitioner with access to guidance from the clinical lead therapist when necessary, including working as a lone practitioner in the community.

To be responsible for the organisation of own caseload and appropriately delegate to junior therapists and support workers. To ensure the team is effective in the day to day running of the clinical area.


To communicate with the multi disciplinary team (MDT) to aid effective patient care, which will include taking an active role in team meetings, joint treatment sessions, case conferences and specialist interest group meetings.

Either working alone or as part of the multi-disciplinary team, to make recommendations for appropriate and timely discharge/transfer from hospital

To consolidate and learn new skills and competencies to provide holistic care using the Therapy Competency Framework. To develop clinical reasoning and treatment techniques through the active participation in training and development. To consolidate knowledge and skills learned through this process with the direction of senior staff, and deliver evidence-based training. This will involve facilitating own learning opportunities, reflecting on practice and learning through this process.

To participate in the supervision, caseload monitoring and clinical education of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduate students.

Providing support, guidance, training, and assessing and evaluating competence, in order to fulfil clinical governance requirements and retain a skilled workforce.

To participate in the undergraduate education process, as a clinical educator for undergraduates from the University of the West of England or other universities.
