Job Purpose:

As a Legal Helpline Advisor you will be the first point of contact for our clients telephoning the legal helpline and you'll be responsible for providing them with general preliminary telephone legal advice under the terms of their home LEI policy on matters in law such as (but not exclusively):

  • Consumer law;
  • Employment law;
  • Property disputes;
  • Clinical Negligence;
  • Personal Injury/RTA/Insurance Disputes;
  • Motoring and/or parking offences.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Providing verbal advice to clients on matters of a general legal nature,
  • Accepting any referrals under the home LEI helpline scheme,
  • Opening new files on the firm's case management system and then allocating cases to a more specialist handler, when necessary, or across the wider business.
  • Assist with the collation/preparation of MI and when not working on the legal helpline
  • Provide general paralegal support and assistance across the business as at the request of the Head of Department
  • Engage in professional communication with all clients to ensure the highest standards are attained
  • Actively and positively promote and represent Carpenters Solicitors throughout the firm, and to external bodies

Experience & Knowledge:


  • A comprehensive general working knowledge of various legal areas and any relevant case law and/or legislation,
  • Holding an LLB/LPC or ILEX qualification would be beneficial but not essential,
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with a calm and methodical approach to work, and a flexible and adaptable attitude to resolving issues,
  • Excellent telephone manner,
  • Good IT skills/knowledge,
  • Good listening skills and pay attention to detail,
  • An ability to assimilate information and deliver straightforward advice to clients,
  • Commercially minded, and able to see opportunities to optimise commercial relationships and opportunities and also outcomes on cases, both for the client and the firm,
  • Able to deal with a fastpaced changing environment whilst still achieving objectives and targets.
