The is a great opportunity for a Diagnostic Radiographer at Band 7 with a BSc degree or equivalent. The job is a full
- time teaching post for a fixed 1 year contract term. Following this time period, the contract can be renewed on a rolling basis pending performance review. Postgraduate qualification in image interpretation with evidence of teaching at a post graduate or undergraduate level are essential for this post.

Main duties of the job


The post primarily involves teaching image interpretation skills to our undergraduate medical students with opportunities to teach allied health professionals.

There will be an expectation on innovation in medical education through educational projects.

The Quality Standards for Imaging (QSI) accredited Radiology department employs 650 staff, seeing 500,000 plus patients per year across the Queen's Medical Centre, City Hospital and NUH Treatment Centre.


As part of the close alliance between NUH and the University of Nottingham, the Radiology department provides undergraduate medical teaching and this role is integral to ensuring that we provide a high quality learning and training environment to support students, ensuring that they have the appropriate skills for the future medical workforce as defined by the GMC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To deliver multimodal image interpretation skills to medical students at NUH Trust.


Contribute to introductory programmes to ensure a fundamental and systematic understanding of radiology investigations at each phase of their learning.

Contribute to small groups workshops (patient workshops) across the clinical course at regular intervals. Give constructive feedback to students on their performance and pointers for further improvement of image interpretation skills.

Undertake student feedback on the delivery of regular teaching and action ideas of further improving teaching.


Contribute to student revision programmes in the form of workshops, tutorials, lectures or one to one tuition tailored to the individual students.

Contribute to the student assessment process as and when required for both formative and summative examinations.


Prepare a systems-based teaching library from our picture archiving system using (I-Code/ PACS bin) software in Radiology to standardise the teaching delivered to across our sites.


Prepare teaching packages ideal for web-based/ online learning for student self-assessment, peer group teaching in addition to current didactic teaching.

To provide cross cover and work together with Radiology consultants and other Radiology Teaching Fellows.

Undertake appropriate projects to support your own learning and improve the experience of our learners.

This will include developing education related research ideas into projects for presentation in local (UMEC conference) and National meetings (ASME, ASPHI) or for publication.

Work alongside the Undergraduate Manager and other Clinical Teaching Fellows to develop innovative teaching methods across the clinical course.

Liaise with the teaching coordinators for a smooth running of the programme.

To attend departmental meetings as and when required.

To communicate on a regular basis with the Radiology Undergraduate Medical Education Lead.

Essential criteria

  • BSc Radiography degree or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualification in image interpretation skills.
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Senior Radiographer with at least 2 years experience of working at Band 7
Teaching

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of interest in teaching with some experience, or Teaching experience in higher education, or Teaching experience in image interpretation skills
Desirable criteria

  • Teaching qualification or publication
  • Presentations at local/regional/national meetings relevant to teaching.

Research/Publications:
Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of previous research interests or publications/ presentations in medicine or medical education.
