Our mission is to support our students to gain the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive in adult life. Every day is different, and staff work with pupils with a range of different needs, which include sensory impairments, communication and learning challenges or autism. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team of dedicated professionals who are committed to providing the very best life chances for our students.

Due to an internal promotion, we are looking to appoint a dynamic, ambitious, and talented individual with a proven track record of school improvement to join us in the role of Deputy Headteacher. This role is a key member of our senior leadership team and will be instrumental in supporting the school in the next stage of development.

The school roll is rising and in September 2024, is expected to be in the region of 85 students, supported by over 70 staff in a range of different roles such as teachers, support staff, residential care staff, speech therapists, a school nurse, audiologist as well as administration and maintenance teams.

    Purpose of the post:

To support the headteacher in providing professional leadership for the school which secures its success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all its pupils and improved standards of teaching and pupil progress.

    Main responsibilities:

  • To play a major role, in partnership with the headteacher, in formulating the aims and objectives of the school

  • As St John's is a residential school, the successful candidate will be required to undertake on-call residential duties. This rota provides a managerial service for the residential care team outside of the school day (3.35pm-8am) and is responsive to unexpected or unpredictable issues that may arise which often require attendance on site at these times. For this reason, they will need to remain within 15 minutes travel time to the school at these times.

  • A very supportive environment with a strong commitment to professional development.
  • An induction programme tailored to your experience and needs.
