    Job summary

    The East Midlands Postgraduate School of Medicine are inviting applications for a Geriatric Training Programme Director.

    The successful applicant will work closely with the Head of School, Regional Postgraduate Dean, local Educators and the Future Workforce Team to produce doctors who will strive for the highest standards of patient-centred care and commit themselves to a lifetime of professional development.

    The Training Programme Director will support in the co-ordination, delivery and direction of the specialty training programme as well as contribute to the overall PG School of Medicine Training Programme in NHS England across the East Midlands.

    Main duties of the job

    The Training Programme Director will ensure that national standards, determined by the Royal Colleges, are adhered to and national and NHS England policies in Training are will ensure standards for training and that each trainee is able to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to gain the capabilities necessary for full registration and completion of the specialty curriculum.

    TheTraining Programme Director will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.

    The post would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced educational supervisor aiming to further develop their educational portfolio.

    This post would require someone who is able to emphasise the importance and promote the development of a quality learning environment for all learners, demonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others.

    Job responsibilities

    NHS England (WTE Directorate) working across the Midlands is responsible for the delivery of high quality postgraduate medical and dental education and training across the region and is committed to the development of a medical and dental workforce that will support high quality patient care, both now and in the future.

    The post attracts PA which will be reimbursed to the successful candidates employing Trust at £10,000 per session PA per annum (pro rata)

    It is expected that Training Programme Directors continue in clinical practice while fulfilling the role. The posts will be offered for 3 years in the first instance with satisfactory annual appraisal, with the option of extending for a further 3 years if mutually agreed.

    Secondments

    Essential

  • Considerable experience of working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context.
  • Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team.
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education
  • Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, related NHS organisations and regulatory bodies
  • Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda
  • Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
  • Active involvement in, and up to date with, appraisal processes
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters
  • Applicants who are doctors require a Licence to Practise
  • Qualifications and Training

    Essential

  • Primary clinical healthcare qualification and currently working at consultant level or equivalent in the specialty school area
  • Must be UK Citizen with Right to Work
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, Train the trainer, etc)
  • Registered with the GMC
