Catering tutor

Skills for Life

Location:
The Grange, Bookham


Hours: 20.75 hours per week, including some flexible or additional working as required


Accountable to:
Catering Team Leader


Purpose:
To support people to develop and progress with their continued learning in whilst identifying potential for enterprise opportunity

In conjunction with the senior catering tutor to plan and facilitate catering sessions to further skills, enterprise opportunities, enhance communication and promote well-being


Key Responsibilities

Skills training

  • To support and enable people with disabilities to learn and improve catering enterprise and work skills to help develop self-esteem, employability and social skills, inspiring independence.
  • To plan differentiated skills sessions to suit the needs of the people we support.
To support people to attend enterprise, catering and cookery related environments and events.


  • To work in a sustainable way to minimise our environmental impact.

Enterprise Activities

  • Research and source new products to improve/enhance the product offer in conjunction with the Enterprise Team Leader
  • To be involved in stock control and management ensuring stock levels support projected orders/sales

  • To encourage positive social interaction during session times and to seek advice from the communication support officer as and when needed.
  • To encourage an active lifestyle and support healthy choices.

Personal Development

  • To attend courses, networking meetings, seminars and to complete on-line training appropriate to the role.
  • To share skills and knowledge with colleagues, including the delivery of basic training in your areas of expertise.
  • To understand and follow The Grange's policies and procedures.

Team Working

  • To share skills and knowledge with colleagues, including the delivery of basic training in your areas of expertise.
  • To be part of the wider Skills for Life Team, participating in team meetings, planning discussions and group activities as required.

Other Duties

  • To use training provided by The Grange to improve your skills and the service we provide.
  • To involve and train volunteers to help with the sessions and further improve the experience for the people we support.
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
  • To monitor progress and write reports for annual reviews.
  • To support at all times the delivery of The Grange's long term plan, its strategic objectives and priority projects.
  • To represent the team and The Grange on internal and external business as required.
  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post at all times in compliance with all of The Grange's policies and values.
  • To carry out other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the level of the role if requested by the Skills for Life Manager or CEO.
  • To support anyone in your area of work which includes but is not limited to people with disabilities, work experience students and volunteers.
  • To support in any area of the wider Grange as and when required

Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience Essential/

Desirable
1 Experience of working with or supporting people with disabilities E

2 Interest in Catering, retail and enterprise E

3 GCSE level in English and Maths E

4 Hold a full driving licence and willing to drive Grange vehicles and van E

5 Teaching qualification (PTLLS) or equivalent D
(If you do not have a teaching qualification we would want you to achieve this once in post)


Competencies / Abilities:

6 Attention to detail and an ability to produce work of a high standard E

7 Excellent IT skills, including confidence to use new and specialist E software packages and the MS Office suite

8 Confidence to use new software packages on desktop, tablets, digital E systems and phones

9 Flexible approach to suit needs of department E

10 Able to reflect and identify ways to improve E

11 Any additional interests and skills e.g. craft, woodwork, flower D arranging, music, sports, poetry.

12 Love of learning - for self and others
