    Description

    Are you a qualified and passionate teacher looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? We are working with a lovely SEN school in the Stockton locality and are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join their team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a crucial role in providing an enriched therapeutic and academic curriculum to our diverse learners, ensuring that their individual needs are fully met.

    Responsibilities: Teaching:

    • Plan and deliver well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school's curriculum and schemes of work.
    • Utilize evidence-informed approaches to reading and literacy interventions, ensuring that all students are equipped with the necessary skills to decode and comprehend across various subjects.
    • Assess and monitor students' knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, using valid and reliable assessment methods.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular strategies that engage and support the learning of our students.
    • Adapt teaching methods to respond to the strengths and needs of individual students, using assistive technology when appropriate.
    • Support the delivery of personalized supports outlined in students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
    • Contribute to curriculum development and improvements as the school's cohort changes and expands.

    Whole-school organization, strategy, and development:

    • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of school policies, practices, and procedures.
    • Actively participate in daily debrief sessions to reflect on teaching and learning strategies for all students.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and other professionals to ensure coordinated outcomes for students' development.
    • Provide cover for other teachers when necessary.
    • Attend and contribute to before/after school activities and clubs.

    Health, safety, and behaviour:

    • Promote the health, safety, and well-being of students.
    • Foster a positive and enriching school environment where students can thrive.
    • Build strong relationships with students and their parents/carers to facilitate effective learning.
    • Encourage high standards of behaviour, employing trauma-informed and neurodiverse-aware approaches to challenging behaviour.
    • Implement strategies to support student self-regulation and positive behaviour.
    • Prioritize collaborative problem-solving, team working, and the well-being of students and staff.

    Professional development:

    • Participate in the school's appraisal procedures.
    • Engage in further training and development to enhance your teaching skills.
    • Provide appraisal and professional development support to colleagues when appropriate.

    Communication and working with others:

    • Maintain regular and effective communication with students, parents, and carers.
    • Utilize the school's digital platforms for accurate assessment and record-keeping.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and relevant professionals within and beyond the school.
    • Cultivate professional relationships with colleagues while upholding high standards of professionalism.

    Personal and professional conduct:

    • Uphold public trust in the teaching profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behavior.
    • Demonstrate commitment to the school's ethos, policies, and practices.
    • Adhere to statutory frameworks governing professional duties and responsibilities.
    • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, following school policies and the staff code of conduct.

    Person Specification: Essential Criteria:

    • Qualified teacher status (QTS)
    • Degree in relevant field.
    • Successful teaching experience of children with special educational needs in a mainstream or special setting.
    • Experience teaching primary and secondary students.
    • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and effective teaching and learning strategies.
    • Ability to adapt teaching to meet the diverse needs of students.
    • Good understanding of cognitive development and learning needs.
    • Strong rapport-building skills with students.
    • Knowledge of safeguarding children guidelines and requirements.
    • Proficient ICT skills, particularly in using technology to support learning.

    Desirable Criteria:

    • Training or courses in neuro-diversity and/or trauma-informed practice.
    • Experience in outdoor learning environments.

    All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
