The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health.

Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

The International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH) and Global Health Economics Centre (GHECO) wish to jointly appoint a Health Economist to work on several aspects of the health economics of Global Eye Health.

Eye disease and poor vision have a high economic cost on individuals and society.

We are working to rigorously examine the economic cost of eye disease and vision impairment, assess the cost-effectiveness and affordability of interventions and build the case for funding for eye health.

ICEH led the Lancet Global Health Commission on Global Eye Heath report, which was published in 2021.

This had several health economic components which were highly influential at the global level in arguing the case for investment.

Our goal is to update, develop and improve methodological approaches in the eye care sector to conduct a comprehensive set of economic data, studies and analysis that cover all world regions to inform policy and funding decisions and to support advocacy.

You will be an active member of the ICEH team being involved in research, teaching and external engagement, to help position eye health within global health (including WHO) and the development agenda.

We are seeking an experienced health economist with particular knowledge and expertise in the economics of eye health.

The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree in a relevant topic, a PhD related to the Health Economics of Eye Health, an understanding of the strategies for improving equity and inclusion in research and or learning and teaching and needs to be passionate about health economics and health services research with high impact in healthcare policy, health services delivery, health outcomes and public health.
