Role in summary:


Reporting into the Head of Retail and Shopper and working flexibly from ZEAL's MediaCityUK office and home in a hybrid role, you will play a key role in our Planning and Strategy team.

Working as part of a fast-paced but supportive planning team, where your insights, planning and strategy will inspire our creative and account teams, as well as our clients.


This role as Retail and Shopper Strategist is a visible and important role within the agency and for our clients, working with account leads and creatives to deliver best-in-class strategic planning and insight across a wide range of projects.


Working across multiple categories, retailers and channels, we are looking for someone who can bring their existing experience and knowledge to the team, whilst embracing the opportunity to grow and develop with our evolving team.


Role in detail:


Leading strategic planning across client briefs:


  • Working with our Client Services' account handlers to take and dissect client briefs
  • Identifying and uncovering real shopper insight that unlocks marketing challenges and which inspires our creative teams
  • Crafting succinct tailored strategies for key retail accounts to help our clients win in their priority accounts across all marketing channels e.g. instore and digital
  • Developing impactful and effective omnichannel media recommendations and rationale to the wider business, including senior stakeholders
  • Working with our Creative team to produce collateral which maximises opportunities within the retail space
  • Selling planning responses into clients with passion and professionalism
  • Evaluating overall campaign effectiveness and making any recommendations for future activity

Acting as a shopper and retail champion across ZEAL:


  • Regularly monitoring and reviewing key shopper behaviour shifts within focus channels and categories
  • Staying abreast of the latest retailer strategic priorities and plans
  • Exploring and capturing the latest retail activations and innovations
  • Developing planning tools for the wider agency to use in the day to day of their roles
  • Writing thought pieces for publication online and in industry press
  • Building relationships with key clients across your accounts
  • Sharing knowledge, learning and best practice across the wider ZEAL business

Who we are looking for:


Having gained experience in agency life, you will have credible experience in the retail and shopper discipline, well-versed in taking briefs and directing people in interesting and effective directions.


We're looking for someone who can come in and hit the ground running, working closely with the team, but handed real autonomy from the start.


You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in agency planning or strategy roles
  • An insatiable curiosity for not only retail and shopper marketing, but for people and culture and a real love for the craft of planning and strategy
  • Demonstrable experience of developing strategic retail and shopper planning across client responses
  • Proven ability to shape and articulate tailored retail activation plans
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills
  • Excellent writing skills and a real passion for crafting compelling copy
  • Some research experience is desirable, although expertise is not required
  • Shopper, retailer and / or FMCG experience is highly desirable
