    Job summary

    We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to provide clinical leadership to our team of inpatient psychologists working in our older people's wards at Chertsey, Epsom and Guildford. Our inpatient units provide specialist care to older people with mental health problems and/or dementia.

    The post is basedat The Meadows 24 bed inpatient unit in Epsom, where you will leadthe psychology provision for the ward in your clinical sessions.

    We are a friendly and supportive department with a strong culture of furthering professional development and providing training, such as the Trust Leadership & Management Development Programme (ILM Accredited Level 5). We are open to discussions should there be additional support to consider for this application.

    Main duties of the job

    There is a strong multidisciplinary approach across our inpatient services, where psychology is seen as a valuable resource. You will be working collaboratively with the inpatient teams and the senior leadership team to develop the role of psychology within the service and help to maintain a culture of compassionate and person-centred care.

    You will ensure our team of qualified Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists are providing evidence-based, high quality care for the inpatient services. As a compassionate leader, you will ensure the team feel engaged, valued, and supported to develop in their roles.

    The Meadows has three units for people with dementia and mental health needs. You will conduct psychological assessments, formulation, therapeutic intervention, and neuropsychological assessment and consultation, as well as support the ward teams through training, supervision, reflective practice and complex case discussions.

    As a Principal Psychologist, you will contribute to the leadership and development of the wider Older People's Psychology department as part of a team of senior Psychologists.

    You will be professionally and clinically supervised by the Lead Consultant Psychologist for Older People's services, and receive specialist neuropsychology supervision from a Clinical Neuropsychologist.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent
  • Completion of an appropriate clinical supervision course to enable supervision of trainees
  • Desirable

  • Additional academic clinical qualification relevant to area of work
  • Additional leadership/management study
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Extensive post qualification clinical experience in relevant clinical setting
  • Experience of leading in clinical practice, service development or project work.
  • Experience of supervising trainees, assistant psychologists, qualified clinical/counselling psychologists and others providing psychological therapies
  • Experience of implementing change following audit and service evaluation
