Description
We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Paediatric Metabolic Bone Disease.

This less than full time fixed term contract post is based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. There is no on-call commitment. The indicative job plan is contained within the job description.


This post is primarily to provide clinical advice to our consultant team to support the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with rare metabolic bone diagnoses such as Rickets, Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia, Osteogenesis Imperfecta and other skeletal dysplasias.

There may be the opportunity to participate with research in this area.


The service at RNOH is growing and works closely with the sarcoma team providing medical treatment for some non-malignant bone tumours.


The existing group of paediatricians at the RNOH have a wide range of interests and we envisage that the new appointee will complement the existing skill mix and also bring in specific expertise and interest in paediatric metabolic bone disease.


The post holder will be expected to support the existing team with outpatient clinics but may be contacted at other times for advice.

There is an ambitious growth agenda at RNOH for paediatrics. This includes new theatres becoming live at RNOH later in 2023.

There is commitment to grow and develop a streamlined children's service in a high quality environment with robust clinical governance.


There is a range of clinical responsibilities including:
Being actively involved in the service including monthly attendance at the paediatric radiology MDT.

Monthly attendance at the complex metabolic bone clinic

Answering occasional queries from the team of paediatric consultants

Engaging with clinical governance activities, including clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.

There will be opportunities to undertake clinical teaching for Paediatricians at RNOH.
