The Head of Non-NHS Business Intelligence is an exciting role for an experienced accountant looking for a new or stretching challenge.

The post offers the opportunity to work across a diverse and complex set of budgets and lead the production of accurate, timely and insightful management information covering the Core Department and Non-NHS Arm's Length Bodies.


This role requires a collaborative and visionary leader to work across other finance teams to provide valuable insights at pace and deliver continuous improvement by harnessing the benefits of automation to provide better and more timely information and streamlining processes.


This post offers the opportunity to lead engagement across a range of finance teams and advise the Finance Director and Director General Finance.

The post holder will be directly responsible for a small team of circa 6 individuals split between Leeds and London and be an active part of the branch leadership team with the Deputy Director and other Grade 6s.


Role responsibilities
As the Head of Non-NHS Business Intelligence you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the delivery of monthly Non-NHS management account reports for use by finance and the wider business. Ensuring the data presented is accurate, timely and insightful to inform decision making.
  • Working closely with Finance Business Partners and the Financial Management Team to review forecasts and understand the drivers of emerging risks and reliefs. Analysing large data sets to understand and challenge the year to date spend and forecast outturn position reported.
  • Translating detail into a highlevel strategic narrative, providing advice on the inyear position concisely and confidently to the Finance Director and Director General Finance and recommend appropriate and proportionate management action to manage within control totals.
  • Preparing strategic updates to the Senior Leadership Team and HM Treasury of the overall position, stepping back to see how the pieces fit into the broader organisational context
  • Providing expert technical budgeting advice for complex financial transactions, enabling teams to accurately budget and forecast in complex and novel spending areas
  • Understanding that the financial position is critical to decision making, ensuring the integrity of underlying data and reports and agility of processes to respond to changing reporting needs.
  • Contributing to the yearend Accounts to explain differences between budget and outturn for the Non-NHS sector and ensuring complex budgeting treatment is accurately reflected.
  • Leading efficiency improvements and harnessing automation opportunities across the various reporting cycles, outputs and systems to improve financial management.
  • Being an inclusive and visionary leader, developing and motivating a high performing team to deliver stretching goals. Provide effective engagement with other Finance teams and ensure opportunities for continual improvement are identified and pursued.

  • You are confident working with large data sets and complex budgets and have an excellent track record of delivering high quality financial and management information, reports and analysis to inform decision making.
