    Job summary

    Are you a GDC registered Dental Nurse with post qualification experience looking for a rewarding Oral Surgery role in a Hospital environment? Do you want to gain new skills and find an area to specialise in? You'll find a friendly welcome and a home for your talents at James Paget Hospital. Whether you're coming from a Dental Surgery or another Hospital, we'll give you time to use your nursing skills .

    You will be part of a close knit collaborative team who pride themselves in providing the highest standard of care to our patients and their families. Our Oral Surgery team is comprised of Oral Surgeons and experienced Dental nurses .

    Main duties of the job

  • To communicate and liaise with consultants, senior dental officers, practitioners and clinical staff.
  • To work within the clinic without direct supervision.
  • To adjust and prioritise workload plans accordingly taking into account resources, clinical demand, practicability, external influences and confines of clinic schedules.
  • To problem solve and troubleshoot to meet the clinicians and patient requirements during a clinic, orthodontic and oral surgery and to assist accordingly.
  • To be able to deal with any complications that may arise in the management of any dental emergencies.
  • To obtain results when needed for healthcare professionals during clinics.
  • To efficiently assist the clinician during oral surgery procedures to a high level of competency without compromising the surgery.
  • To participate with the monitoring of the patient during intravenous sedation and / or regional anaesthesia. To report any deviations of normal limits to the trained nurse / clinician promptly.

    Job responsibilities

    To work and participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing high standards of care for patients with complex dental problems and orthodontic needs that cannot be treated in the General Dental Practice(s). The post holder will provide a range of dental nursing, oral surgery & orthodontic care to support the dental clinic without direct supervision.

    education and qualifications

    Essential

  • Current professional registration with the General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent with "C" pass or above in English and Mathematics
  • Desirable

  • ECDL or equivalent lT experience
  • Dental Radiology competency
  • Experience and knowledge

    Essential

  • Recent (within the past year) chairside experience in dental practice
  • Desirable

  • Previous hospital experience
  • Orthodontic / advanced restorative / surgical experience
  • Skills, abilities and competencies
