    Building Defect Surveyor & Remedial Designer

    Due to the growth of SOCOTEC UK, we have recently acquired a new addition to our company, Hutton + Rostron.     We are looking for a dedicated, reliable and proactive Building Defect Surveyor and Remedial Designer to join our team. You will be exposed to several unique projects throughout the UK, working with heritage organisations through to commercial property managers.

    Your work will include the investigation of and research into building failures of all sorts but will mainly consist of carrying out site investigations and producing reports on building failures, involving moisture penetration and material performance and decay.

    This person will be required to drive to client sites, and so a full driving licence, valid in the UK is necessary. This may be supported with the benefits of company cars or a car allowance, dependent upon the individual and site where you are employed.

    The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Carrying out building investigations and analysis utilising a range of techniques
  • Preparing reports with the necessary background research and remedial recommendations, illustrated with photographs, sketch details and CAD plans
  • Providing high quality, professional and timely advice to clients relating to building defects, material condition and performance
  • Attending meetings with clients, their design teams and consultants
  • Following established company procedures and protocols and assisting in the development of new systems to ensure that the companys quality standards are maintained and enhanced
  • Undertaking personal training and development, as discussed with Directors
  • Ensuring confidentiality at all times in all matters relating to any work or communication with the company and clients
  • Provide technical support to the wider SOCOTEC community and become a champion of Building Pathology within the Group
  • To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Varied UK construction experience and proven knowledge of design, procurement, site operations and management processes
  • Have a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a field relevant to the construction industry and built environment
  • Have achieved or be working towards Chartered Membership of the RIBA, RICS or other professional institutions
  • A professional, organised and thorough approach to work with demonstrates an attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative in identifying and undertaking work that needs to be carried out
  • Comfortable working within a team or independently
  • High standards of written and spoken English
