Job summary:


As Senior Recruitment Lead for Department for International Trade (DIT), one of the most international and modern departments of UK government, you will be head of a small team of expert Recruitment professionals, sitting within the wider Resourcing Hub of DIT.

You will be focused solely on recruitment into the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) space, with responsibilities ranging from overseeing end-to-end recruitment operations, to developing Resourcing strategy, influencing senior leaders, and collaborating with colleagues across government.

Being passionate about looking after our customers is a critical part of this job.

You'll be responsible for developing and implementing an iterative recruitment strategy to source, hire and onboard the most capable and diverse DDaT professionals in the market.

You will also ensure the department meets Civil Service recruitment principles of fair and open competition and that we recruit on merit.


You'll get to progress in a fast paced, supportive team and you will quickly become an expert in all things digital, data and technology at DIT, whilst developing your skills in wider HR through input and exposure to other parts of the organisation.

You will be empowered to make decisions and, if things go wrong, you will demonstrate the resilience to fix them quickly taking on board lessons learned.


You will work to motivate and inspire a team of 1 x HEO Resourcing Manager and 4 x EO Resourcing Advisors, overseeing day to day operations and building their capability in all thing's recruitment and HR.

You'll work with them to scope, manage and deliver recruitment and HR project work.

This role is available in two UK locations, including central London, and Darlington's new economic hub. This role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in the office on average.

Changes to these working arrangements are available in certain circumstances but must be agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DIT, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.

Job description:

You'll develop and deliver DDaT' s people and recruitment strategy, on behalf of the DDaT Senior Management Team


This will involve:

  • Employee Value Proposition developing and iterating an EVP, covering all things attraction, branding and events. You'll need to consider the government's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and the levelling up agenda how to we recruit outside London?
  • Workforce planning working with heads of professions, talent & capability teams, and finance colleagues to plan to meet current and future demands, futureproofing our workforce, and building innovative recruitment strategies.
  • Networking working with wider corporate partners and HR teams, the Cabinet Office and other departments to ensure recruitment plans are delivered and that recruitment aligns to the central government Pay and Capability Frameworks.
  • Producing management information and insights in recruitment performance and diversity data to report directly into DDaT Senior Management Team.

Essential Skills and Experience

You will have demonstrable skills and experience of:

  • Knowledge of Digital, Data or Technology recruitment with a sound understanding of the market, professional networks and recruiting trends.
  • Analytical capability to understand basic recruitment data and to derive insights to present to senior teams.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast paced environment, willing to communicate with, educate and challenge senior audiences where necessary.
  • Able to work independently to lead a team to deliver to high standards.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and manage a diverse range of stakeholders, across a range of corporate functions and teams.

Desirable Skills and Experience
