Job Title:
Catering Assistant

Job Setting:
Care Home / Nursing Home

To assist in organising and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Responsible To;
Head Chef

Key Responsibilities

Prepare vegetables, fruit, etc.
Assist in laying tables and serving food, under the direction of the Cook/Assistant Cook and in clearing up afterwards.
To clean kitchen equipment, utensils, crockery and cutlery.
Clean food stores and other areas, ensuring stock rotation where applicable.
Maintain kitchen floors, walls and surfaces in a clean and hygienic manner.
Attend training sessions/courses necessary in the performance of these duties.
Planning menus by involving residents, care service staff and dietician (where necessary).
Ensuring that meals have a high nutritional value.
Ensuring that food is prepared in clean and safe conditions, free from dirt, germs, insects, vermin, odour, etc.

Health & Safety;

Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen.
Understand and comply with all statutory and legal requirements which are relevant such as Health & Safety, COSHH, all aspects of the Care Standards Act, Emergency and Fire procedures, have a clear understanding of Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures and measures to maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
Report to the Home Manager, or the Maintenance person, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
Promote safe working practice in the care home.
