We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Ecologist to successfully lead a team to adopt sustainable practices and drive meaningful change.     The Company: A reputable horticultural and forestry business, offering a variety of consultancy services tailored to the sector, along with bespoke woodland and garden design and management advice. At the heart of the business is a commitment to sustainability and natural capital, which runs deep through everyday practices.

    Role Responsibilities:

    • To lead and manage the ecology team, providing advice and mentoring support where necessary
    • To provide the technical support on ecological projects
    • To prepare technical reports including e.g. Ecological Impact Assessments and protected species licensing etc.
    • To liaise with stakeholders and clients, providing technical advice and regularly attending meetings
    • To develop and contribute to fee proposals, projects and other areas of the consultancy business
    • To contribute to sales, growing the customer base and increasing the brand awareness of the business
    • To deliver training to the team and lead external CPD sessions

    Skills you will need:
    Essential:

    • A degree in ecology, environmental science, or related subject
    • A protected species licence (bats or dormice preferred)
    • Proven experience of DEFRA Biodiversity Metric and site appraisals
    • Experience in managing projects at large, complex sites, as well as managing survey teams and subcontractors
    • Knowledge of current environmental legislation and planning system
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • The capacity to convey complex information to a range of audiences
    • A team player who can work collaboratively across the business
    • The ability to lead a team successfully
    • A commitment to environmental conservation and the promotion of sustainable practices
    • Adaptable and flexible approach, responding to the needs of the business
    • Proficient IT skills
    • A UK driving licence

    Desirable:

    • Chartered membership of CIEEM (or working towards)
    • Registered under Natural England Bat Class Licence
    • Experience in electronic data collection or GIS mapping
