    Description

    We are offering an excellent opportunity for a Control Engineer Apprentice to work with our Southampton-based engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to be trained onsite and get involved in helping to maintain our control equipment that is installed on site. In addition, this role will provide technical help to engineering staff members for capital projects, breakdowns, and control system issues.

    About The Role
    How will you contribute:

  • Learn how to maintain our asset. You will work with the Engineering team and nominated representatives to deliver optimum equipment repair and availability. Assist with fault finding on longer term breakdowns, minimising operational down time.
  • Assist procurement with sourcing and integrate replacement components and systems for obsolete equipment.
  • Learn the commissioning and pre acceptance testing of new equipment and infrastructure.
  • Deliver improvements such us projects to reduce our terminals impact within carbon, light and noise pollution.
  • Learn how to complete modifications and upgrade to PLC, drive control systems as agreed with the Engineering team to suit operational requirements and/or improve reliability and safety.
  • Act on the findings on the reliability analysis to improve the overall reliability of operational fleet.
  • Reduce cost by extending component life and reducing damage.
  • Review stock holdings of control parts, ensuring that where possible components are pre-loaded with the correct software and settings.
  • Assist with ensuring all necessary permits are issues, received and closed out in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist in the implementation of company policies and safe working procedures.
  • What will you Bring
    Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs grades A-C / 9-4 (achieved or predicted). Must have received a 5 in Maths and English and a relevant Science or design
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline
  • An interest in engineering or technical discipline
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Happy with the mixture of college work and onsite training
