Salary:
National - up to £75,000 and London up to £85,000

What you will be doing


We are looking for a highly talented, motivated, outcome focused self-starter with a deep, rich and broad experience of the lending sector (across consumer credit and mortgages).


You will work alongside our existing Technical Specialist who will be responsible for debt and credit brokers whilst you will be responsible for mortgages and consumer credit lending.

Whilst you will be responsible for your own area of expertise, you will work with the existing Technical Specialist to provide cover for each other and or work together on tasks and projects.


In summary:

  • You will be the Authorisations consumer credit and mortgage lending expert not only for the department but also called upon to provide your expertise to stakeholders across the FCA and externally
  • You will also lead and contribute to departmental, divisional and FCA projects, activities and strategies

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing consumer credit and mortgage lending technical, industry, regulatory and legislative expertise to support the delivery of high quality and assertive regulatory assessments and decisions, and where appropriate building internal consensus
  • Leading on or supporting case officers with strategies to deal with complex or novel firm issues, interpreting risks and recommending the most appropriate course of action
  • Leading or supporting case officers with firm meetings, educating firms on their regulatory responsibilities, and delivering difficult messages constructively and effectively
  • Providing critical thinking relating to the mortgage and consumer credit lending sector and developing high quality strategies at a sector level
  • Briefing colleagues across the FCA or externally, on matters relating to your area of expertise, including ability to confidently deal with senior stakeholders and challenge
  • Developing and delivering training to build case officer capabilities
  • Leading or contributing to policy development and designing and implementing regulatory change
  • Proactively building excellent networks and relationships (both internally and externally) to facilitate understanding of risks and issues in the sector and sharing knowledge to achieve good regulatory outcomes and timely decision making

Within the Authorisation Division, you will:

  • Directly contribute to the authorisation strategies for protecting the mortgage and consumer credit lending firm's gateway
  • Develop knowledge of other sectors and other regulatory, law enforcement and government bodies.
  • Confidently interact with and influence senior level individuals internally, at firms, and key industry stakeholders as a key FCA representative in this ever-changing marketplace
  • Have the opportunity to work on interesting and stretching projects and activities that will shape our approach to regulation
  • Build a wide network across the FCA and other regulatory and governmental organisation, representing the department/division in discussions with senior management
  • The opportunity to influence and grow case officer capabilities
