Your New Role:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a
permanent, site-based Highways Maintenance Operative to join our
Stafford account in
Stoke-on-Trent.

The salary is between approx. £19,700 - £25,800.


The
Stafford account is working in partnership with Staffordshire County Council since 2014, to manage and maintain the county's highways infrastructure.

We deliver infrastructure services across 6,000KM of Staffordshire by providing maintenance to road, cycle routes, bridges, tunnels, lighting, drainage, traffic signals, trees and land.

By carrying out such works we aim to improve and provide effective highways services for the local residents and communities of Staffordshire.


The
Highways Maintenance Operative plays an important part in undertaking the installation of temporary traffic management, and all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civils' works, and litter picking.


The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, the shift pattern will be discussed at interview stage.

You will be responsible for:


  • Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance works including carriageway and footway patching, kerbing, ironwork replacement and drainage
  • Attending work briefings as required on how to drive/operate vehicles/plant equipment which require both general and specialist skills
  • Participating in both summer & winter 24hr standby on a rota basis participating with incident response, winter maintenance services, precautionary gritting and the safe clearance of snowfall
  • Allocation and capturing time and resource utilisation in line with operated allocation system
  • To keep records up to date, completing all necessary paperwork, communicating and liaising with other employees of Amey, subcontractors, the emergency services, the police, the general public, clients and customers

We want to hear from you if you have new roads and/or street works experience from your previous roles within similar industries e.g. civil engineering, groundworks, traffic management or any other relevant background. It is essential that you hold a full UK driving licence for this position.


Ideally you will be qualified in LGV driving, category C (Class 2) with an up to date Driver Qualification Card with experience in Emergency First Aid at Work (HSE) and be willing to learn and develop new skills.


In
addition to this, it would be desirable if you have 12D M1-M2 (High Speed Traffic Management) competency to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
