    This post is designed to provide middle grade registrar experience for an enthusiastic young trainee looking to advance their career in Urology.

    Our department at Russells Hall Hospital is a busy district general hospital unit with specialist services in genito-urethral reconstruction, supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy with urologist inserted ultrasound guided access, HOLEP for large prostates and da Vinci Xi upper tract surgery.

    This post is one of the 6 middle grades in the department and comes with at least one day per week in the operating theatres. The operative experience is mainly concentrated on lower and upper tract endourology, namely TURBT, TURP, Urolift, Rezum and rigid/flexible uretero-renoscopy and laser stone fragmentation procedures.

    The successful candidate will be trained in LATP prostate biopsies. This post comes with a weekly flexible cystoscopy list; if necessary, the successful candidate will receive training in this.

    Main duties of the job

  • Morning ward rounds shared with five mid-grade colleagues and the on call consultant.
  • Provide / maintain senior cover for Foundation Year and core trainees on ward for emergencies and elective inpatients in partnership with mid grade colleagues in order to enhance safety/quality of patient care and reduce length of stay.Increase availability of seniors to manage emergencies / emergency theatre
  • Non-resident on call cover as middle grade 1 in 6, Urology only.
  • Provide cover for daily activities during absence of fellow registrars when necessary.

  • Rapid access haematuria and / or prostate clinics as required

  • Ability to work at registrar (or higher) level in Urology
  • Ability to offer clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
