About this job:


The Portage team is a home-education service who work with children aged 0 - 4 years in Barking and Dagenham who are disabled or have special educational needs.

We visit families to provide support based on the model devised by the National Portage Association - Child-led play; Structured Teaching; and Family Focus.

In Barking and Dagenham, we recognise the importance of early identification and intervention to support children and families where children are not meeting their developmental milestones.

We work closely with our partners in health, education and social care to ensure a co-ordinated approach.

As a Portage Practitioner you will support children with variety of needs, running groups and having a caseload of families to visit in their homes.

This is a great development opportunity for an experienced early years practitioner to join the team for a one-year fixed term contract (maternity cover) to learn new ways of supporting children with disabilities or special educational needs and their families.

This is a part time role. 21 hrs per week

About you:


You will be an experienced and qualified early years practitioner who has a passion for working with children with special educational needs and disabilities.

You will have a sound knowledge of child development with the ability to observe, assess and plan activities to support children's development.

You will have experience of running groups for children and their parents, and working with families within their own home.

You will be an excellent communicator who can build strong working relationships with colleagues and professionals as well as children and families.
