Our Packaging Technologist is responsible for supporting the development of the Packaging Strategy, delivering safe and legal compliance, innovation and our sustainability goals, and implementing the packaging strategy across the BUs.

Key to this is driving the quality and innovation agenda and ensuring that all our product packaging is appropriate, well sourced and cost effective.


What you need to do

  • Agree and deliver with the Packaging Manager, plastics & packaging strategy targets and innovative packaging development projects.
  • Work closely with the category teams and cross functional teams within a business unit to identify, coordinate and report on projects to help deliver our packaging strategy at a category and product level.
  • With the team, Initiate, develop and implement policies, frameworks, training and reporting requirements that enable us to deliver our quality, innovation and legal obligations as well as our sustainability targets.
  • Ensure that packaging technical specifications are met as part of the product development process in delivering safe and legal product packaging and the appropriate detail to enable management reporting that is accurate, insightful and informative.
  • Implement quality standards competently and challenge the unacceptable.
  • Complete detailed investigations on packaging issues to identify the root cause of the issue and implement clear complain reduction action plans with all suppliers, category teams and packaging team support.
  • Implement risk based governance for suppliers of both finished packaging and packaging raw materials.
  • Working with the CR&S team to develop a packaging strategy that supports delivery of external commitments, such as the UK Plastics Pact.
  • Support first to market packaging innovation through supplier/industry/joint ventures and strategic alliances. Work with legal and trading teams to protect first to market positioning through Intellectual Property, legal patents etc...
  • Work with industry experts, including WRAP and INCPEN to identify Research and Development opportunities

What you need to know and show

  • Experience in the management of packaging projects across complex global supply chains.
  • Comfortable with working in a large customerfocused business, delivering results at rapid pace.
  • Ability to build and prove effective business cases for sustainability programmes.
  • Knowledge of relevant networks and stakeholders in the field of packaging and print, and used to representing an organisation at highlevel meetings.
  • Capable of training, coaching, and providing ongoing support to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project management skills ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure
  • Anticipating risks and opportunities, responding to escalations at pace and coaching others to find solutions based on your expertise
  • Adapting your decision making to different levels of ambiguity and urgency
  • Ensuring focus on objectives that have the biggest impact and effectively dealing with change
  • Accountability and proactivity for supporting and driving results outside your team or division
