    Full time
    Description

Day in the Life of a Manufacturing Engineer

A typical day in the life of a Fluke Norwich Manufacturing Engineer (ME) always starts with a Daily Management Team meeting to discuss what happened yesterday and what's planned for today. Who needs help in what area and what the team needs to do today to be successful.

Success revolves around supporting Production with day-to-day issues to maintain continuous production. Monitored through an automated Line Down system they include machine breakdowns, component evaluations to combat obsolescence and performance enhancements, and then improvement projects to Roll Through Yield (RTY).

RTY is the ME's primary KPI and is reported out to Senior Leadership at the end of each month along with countermeasures accompanying the monthly report out generated by the assigned ME product owner to address the gap to target.

ME projects to improve RTY and Productivity whilst reducing waste run in parallel, ranging from simple assembly enhancements to full automation solutions.

In this role, you will own, maintain, and improve the manufacturability of new and existing products through design, development, troubleshooting, upgrading, and documentation of manufacturing processes. Exploring new technologies and manufacturing methods to improve efficiency and productivity.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide day to day engineering support and expertise in production for released products.
    • Evaluate new and existing production lines to identify improvements to manufacturing process, analytical requirements, and equipment; advise appropriate engineering personnel on manufacturability, process robustness and equipment requirements.
    • To ensure the smooth transition of new products into manufacturing (NPI).
    • Co-ordinate the activities of personnel involved in engineering investigations and new product pilot runs.
    • Conduct tests and measurements throughout stages of process or analytical procedure development to determine process control and identify improvements; evaluate findings and coordinate with appropriate personnel to ensure adherence to specifications and execute improvements.
    • Maintain active and continuous contact (not restricted to formal meetings) with Engineering and Production.

    Your Team

The ME Team is a relatively small group of 13 individuals (8 Norwich / 5 Berlin) with a blend of knowledge and skills, encompassed through a range of ages and nationalities.

Being part of the wider European team, we meet weekly to track and discuss issues on other sites to see ways in which we can help each other leverage our skill sets more effectively.

Engaging in fun activities including most recently the Fortive Innovations Day competition to showcase a bench test automation solution the ME apprentices are working on. We got through to the final competing against 47 other Fortive competitors. As a team, we built a Soap Box in the design of a handheld multimeter and entered the Sheringham Soap Box race. Great fun.
