The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is seeking to recruit 2 x band 4 associate paediatric respiratory & sleep physiologists to work in the paediatric respiratory medicine & sleep service.


There are 2 posts available:

One full time (37.5 hours/week) fixed term post to 31st March 2024, and another part time (30 hours/week) permanent post.


These posts will help to deliver the provision of respiratory & sleep physiology testing within the Children's Hospital alongside the current band 7 physiologists.

It will also help deliver inpatient & outpatient sleep studies within the Children's Hospital. The post-holder will participate in a flexible working pattern, incorporating both day & night shifts.


Paediatric respiratory medicine at the Children's Hospital provides a tertiary service for children across the South West, including services for children with cystic fibrosis, neuromuscular disease, and those on long term ventilation.

The Children's Hospital has all the paediatric sub-specialities on the same site, & sits next to the adult hospital with a full respiratory physiology lab.

We are looking for someone with energy and enthusiasm, ideally with previous experience in respiratory physiology. In return you will receive support & development from a friendly and committed team. You must be highly motivated, with an ability to work autonomously & as part of a team. As a valued team member you will have effective communication, organisational & interpersonal skills.


The post holder will be responsible for supporting an efficient and high quality service in the field of Paediatric Respiratory Physiology and Sleep Medicine, and to provide the very best care for patients during their inpatient stay or outpatient visit.


  • To support the provision of the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology service for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
  • To undertake a range of lung function investigations on inpatients & outpatients.
  • To facilitate the provision of sleep study investigations for inpatients and home sleep studies.
  • To train in analysis and reporting of sleep studies following departmental and international standards.
