About the role:


_Duties and responsibilities_


The Research Assistant will be primarily responsible for participant recruitment across England and Scotland (RCT of E-PAtS, a psychoeducational intervention to improve mental well-being of parents with a child with intellectual disability).

The Research Assistant will recruit participants, undertake screening and data collection (surveys and interviews), working collaboratively with intervention delivery partners (service providers such as Mencap.

The researcher will be part of a large research team across the UK and will contribute to study management, data analyses and dissemination.

Some travel across delivery sites will be required though the majority of work will be undertaken from UCL (over telephone/video-conferencing).

Hybrid working may be negotiable for this post.


Appointment details:


  • This post is available part time at 0.6 FTE (21.9 hours per week).
  • The post is graded on the nonclinical research staff Pay Scale Grade 6B spine points 2527, the annual salary for which ranges from £35,702 to £37,548 (including London Allowance) full time equivalent.
  • The appointment is available from (1st September) and is funded for 29 months in the first instance.

About you:


You will have a strong (upper 2:1) first degree in Psychology (or related discipline) and a Master's degree (Psychology or related discipline).

You may be studying for your PhD in parallel to the present role.


You will have experience of conducting qualitative or quantitative research, including experience of recruiting participants in research projects or for PPI.

You will have experience of doing research in the field of intellectual disability/neurodevelopmental conditions. You may have experience of doing research with parents of young children.

For this role, a sound understanding of good practice in research and regulatory frameworks for data protection (usually attained through previous work and research experience in trials or other research studies) would be very helpful.

Training will be provided to undertake screening interviews (using the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales) and data collection and previous experience interviewing research participants is desirable.


You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and you will be able to form good collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders: intervention delivery partners, parents and research participants as well as colleagues in collaborating Universities.

As UCL is the recruitment lead for England and Scotland, you will have a key role to play recruiting the majority of participants and, for this, you must be able to effectively manage your workload against targets and agreed timetables.

As a member of a very large research team, the ability to form and maintain positive working relationships is essential.
