    As a Project Manager (Engineering & Construction), you will be joining a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team, playing a key part in the delivery of a £100m portfolio of projects as part of the AMP7/8 business plan for Southern Water.

    You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of your allocated projects, driving resilience and asset-based projects forwards to ensure the Southern Water investment plan is delivered to a high quality, on time and within budget.

    You will get exposure to high value capital investment projects providing a challenging but rewarding opportunity for an ambitious Project Manager to help us deliver the best value to our customers and securing wastewater treatment as part of a key public service. You will contribute to key economic growth ensuring the continued resilience of the treatment process for future generations.

    The role will give you exposure to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, Operations, Asset Managers, Engineers, Local Authorities, and our Framework Partners. This is a varied and rewarding role that provides you with an overwhelming sense of achievement in being able to contribute to finding increasingly technical solutions.

    You need not have a background in Water or Wastewater. We would welcome applications from candidates outside of the sector, bringing fresh perspectives and ideas. This role has a focus on problem solving, decision making, setting goals and objectives. If you have previous project management experience in Utilities, Nuclear, Power or any other construction environment then we would love to hear from you.

    What We're Looking For:

  • APM PMQ qualified Wastewater Project Manager working within Southern Water Engineering & Construction directorate, delivering above ground wastewater infrastructure across the Southern Water region to time, cost, quality and meeting regulatory criteria.
  • An experienced contract manager: commercial awareness, understanding of contractual implications when decisions are made and effective negotiation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC ECC forms of contract, able to effectively administer contracts through electronic communication software (CEMAR).
  • An inspiring leader with a natural ability to manage people to enable them to perform at their best.
  • A problem solver. You will be able to identify potential issues and working with the Senior Project Manager to implement business improvements.
  • Working with the Senior Project Manager to provide clarity of delivery timescales and simplify programme complexities to allow the business to make informed decisions on investment to reduce business risk.
  • A self-starter, being able to demonstrate initiative, having a positive can-do attitude and willingness to working with a wide range of stakeholders at home and in the office.
  • Exceptionally well organized demonstrating excellent time management.
  • Your core responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinating the functions of the estimating, scheduling, procurement, design, construction and front-line operational departments as they relate to the progress and completion of the project / programme under their direction.
  • Working in collaboration with our Delivery Partners, ensuring they are providing services in accordance with their contractual obligations.
  • Build strong and effective working relationships with contractors, colleagues, and both internal and external key stakeholders.
  • Achieving the overall budget and quality objectives of the project/programme of works.
  • Ensuring that the project schedule is established and maintained within prescribed schedule and budget parameters.
  • Effectively manage project risks through early warning process, identification, recording, management, and mitigation of such risks, utilising established risk management systems (PIM).
  • Facilitate meetings to achieve consensus to maintain programme, to cost, quality and time.
  • Regular visits to site to audit and check on progress.
  • Complete management information requirements to support a timely and accurate reporting regime within the department.
  • Maintaining cost control throughout the project life cycle, ensuring budgets are maintain, authorised financial governance is adhered to and forecast spends are as representative as possible.
  • Maintaining health, safety, and the environment to the highest of standards.
  • Keeping the end users in mind when delivering projects, understanding who the customers are, delivering schemes that will enhance and benefit them.
