The role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a technical author.

In this role you will be exposed to a wide range of activities and technologies in a thriving and highly technical environment.

You will discover how engineers work in different disciplines and cultures and what they need to help them do it.


You will be expected to attend and actively participate in team meetings, group meetings and user forums on a regular basis and to play an active role in Arup's skills networks and digital transformation initiatives.


This role will work closely with others in the Digital Development team, with the wider Digital Technology Group and with colleagues in business groups and engineering teams.

It reports to the senior designer who is currently based in the UK.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Create documentation and other help content such as quick start guides, tutorials, sample code, best practices, API docs, videos, to assist people in using our software
  • Work closely with the stakeholders and development team to ensure that features, enhancements, and changes are fully documented
  • Talk to user support groups, support teams, trainers, and users to gather feedback and keep the help content relevant and up to date
  • Create simple illustrations to clarify points
  • Help make the software accessible to different users in different cultures

Requirements and skills

Essential skills and knowledge:


  • Experience with dealing with complex technical information
  • Understanding of standard business software products and processes
  • Ability to write for different user groups and different levels of experience
  • Willingness to follow style and brand guidelines
  • Strong team working skills coupled with an ability to build trusted relationships with different people and groups

Desirable skills and knowledge:


  • Experience working in an Architecture, Engineering or Construction firm or with one of the AEC technical software vendors would be useful
  • Experience of working in multinational, multicultural environments
  • Experience of documentation authoring tools and techniques such as doc2help or markdown
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related discipline or demonstrated significant experience in documentation and the delivery of quality work
