An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Children's Community Nursing Team for a secondment post for the Off-Duty Co-ordinator Role for 12 months.

If you have great organisational and communication skills then this is the job for you.

You will be required to work from an office and at home and have the chance to work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals and parents.


The post holder will be responsible for the central coordination of the off duty, requests, sickness, training & annual leave for the Children's Community Nursing Team.

This includes proactively managing all off duty, in conjunction with the Off Duty Manager identifying and supporting implementation of improvements and efficiencies.

Ensuring effective ongoing use of Healthroster across the Community Children's Nursing Team.

The post holder will:


  • Formulate and produce off duty rotas for continuing healthcare packages incorporating requests from both families and staff including planned leave i.e. study leave, annual leave or unscheduled leave such as long term sickness using HealthRoster. In preparation for first check by the Off Duty Manager, second check, authorisation and publication by the identified Clinical Lead.
  • To distribute rotas to families within specified timeframes.
  • To receive and manage the sickness of all CCNT staff ensuring CSW workload is covered as appropriate and families informed of changes in a timely manner. Informing clinical leads to ensure nurse dairy allocation is reallocated.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that all approved identified / requested mandatory and statutory training for CSW's within the Community Children's Nursing Team is accommodated in the off duty with minimum impact on service delivery.
  • To centrally coordinate the following types of leave for CSW's: annual leave, study leave, planned and unplanned sickness absence, special leave authorised by individual's line manager. The off duty coordinator will review, follow policies and procedures for approving leave, ensuring sufficient staffing levels to continue to provide a safe and sustainable service. Identification and relevant escalation should the service be placed at risk due to poor staffing levels.
  • To be responsible for the accurate recording on HealthRoster of clinical shifts / visits undertaken by CSW's are correct and a clear reflection of their working pattern to ensure correct payment of any enhancements owed.

This does not include nurse's working day / generic caseload hours which are the off duty manager / locality clinical leads responsibility.
  • To be responsible for any changes occurring within the rota are recorded accurately as a true auditable history / record. Ensuring CSW's hours worked are correct and a clear reflection of their working pattern.
  • In the absence of the off duty manager as delegated, meeting with families on a regular basis to ensure their off duty requests are met in a reasonable timely manner.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required including the CSW's group clinical supervision, package meetings, Children's Continuing Care Clinical Review Group and distribute information as required.
  • To work closely with the Off Duty Manager or in their absence the identified IT clinical lead on a weekly basis to ensure smooth, effective and equitable management of unpredictable issues relating to children, young people and their families and staffing.
  • To handover to on call for overnight off duty coverage, highlighting any shifts not covered ensuring that anything uncovered is communicated so this can be chased and updated to maintain service delivery.
