Responsibilities
Typical Resident Engineer duties may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Holding design and information gathering workshops to understand the Customer's existing network design and their future plans and goals.
  • Understand a customer's organisational structure including network implementation, support processes and procedures. Passionate about creating a highly available and sustainable network.
  • Test new designs, features, functionality & patching in a laboratory environment, developing plans to implement and verify success in the live network.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and problems, opening and supervising cases through to problem resolution. This may include raising and tracking returns.
  • Work on developing network optimisation and configuration reviews.
  • Author summary reports of the status of Design projects, incidents & problems. Discussing the same in meetings.
  • Lead field training to educate Customer's design, implementation and support personnel in the configuration / operation of Juniper Networks products.
  • Peering with colleagues performing similar resident engineering roles learning lessons which will help minimise risk for the customer. The RE will be encouraged to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper product portfolio.

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced knowledge required:

  • Experience with MPLS, RSVP, LDP, IS-IS, OSPF, BGP, seamless MPLS, Inter-AS in a large service provider environment including understanding of MPLS PWE, L3VPN & EVPN-VPWS services.
  • Understanding of ECMP, BFD for Link Fault Detection on Layer 3, LFM for L2 Link Fault Management.
  • Flowspec and IPFIX.
  • Experience in Data Centre and switching technologies including, EVPN-MPLS, EVPN-VXLAN, VGA, loop avoidance, Learning, Flooding, Aging, Filtering, VLAN approach, Link Aggregation (static & dynamic with LACP), interaction of ARP and the L2 learning process.
  • JUNOS, JUNOS-EVO operating systems.
  • Handson experience with Juniper MX/EX/QFX/ACX series.

Good understanding of:

  • PPPoE/DHCP/LAC, LTS, LNS Subscribers services
  • Understanding of basic infrastructure protocols like, SYSLOG, SNMP, DNS, NTP and RADIUS.
  • Switching protocols Spanning Tree (RSTP, MSTP and VSTP).
  • Knowledge and experience of Juniper automation best practices including the use of the Junos XML API, SLAX, and, ideally, PyEz, and Ansible.
  • Understanding and hands on experience with Python & PyEZ.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies and frameworks. Jenkins, Robot Framework, a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience of Streaming Telemetry desirable.
  • Strong social and interpersonal skills coupled with emotional intelligence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven Understanding of Security technologies.
  • 3+ year's experience in managing large technical account activity revolving around network products from multiple vendors.
  • Certifications: CCNP/CCIP or CCIE, JNCIS or higher CCSA/CCSE, CCS/CCSP, NCSA/NCSP.
  • Additional Routing and Switching knowledge.
Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
