Job summary:

The Department for International Trade (DIT) secures UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade.

Our responsibilities are to:

  • Help businesses export
  • Drive inward and outward investment
  • Negotiate market access and trade deals
  • Champion free trade

Investment
Investment plays an important role in the UK economy.

Whilst only 4% of local business units in the UK were foreign owned in 2019, they were responsible for nearly 40% of UK business turnover and employed just over 5 million people.

Investment will be essential to delivering the government's wider objectives including levelling-up, clean growth, innovation, and job creation.

The Investment Directorate works to deliver economic growth to all the nations and regions of the UK through attracting and retaining all modes of inward investment.

We also deliver major investment events like the Global Investment Summit in October 2021, hosted by Her Majesty The Queen and The Prime Minister.

We are recruiting for a leadership role on DIT's Investment Transformation Programme Team.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead a design and delivery team responsible for shaping the future of DIT's investment operations, to ensure it remains ahead of the competition and can expand its focus on landing high-value, high impact investment into the UK.

Initially, the role will be focused on delivering one priority workstream, the Future of Investment Services Support (FISS).

The role would suit a self-starter who is comfortable leading a team through ambiguity—motivated by problem solving solutions to challenges facing the investment directorate and to take them through to implementation.

The role would suit someone who is experienced in designing policy and strategy as well as those with business change and strategy implementation skills.

We are united by a common set of values and expectations for our staff to be expert, enterprising, engaged and inclusive.

We value diversity in all its forms.

Job description:

Through the design phase of projects you will be responsible for:

  • Scoping and designing business change
  • Leading the initial strategy development across each transformation project and ongoing design through to delivery
  • Leading relationships with stakeholders working on transformation design and strategy development

Moving into implementation you will be responsible for:

  • Building the implementation plans for your designs
  • Working with leadership to resource packages of business and technical change needed to deliver the Investment Transformation vision
  • Leading the delivery team to implement change, working closely with investment leads across DIT, in the UK and overseas, who will be embedding change in their business areas.

The role will require line management of approximately 10 people although there will be matrix management required of corporate roles across the department to deliver the objectives of change projects.

The post holder will be responsible for building and developing their team.

Hybrid Working
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.

If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
