About the role:

We are looking for a Underwriter to join our Birmingham based team.


Key responsibilities:


  • Develop, negotiate and profitably underwrite existing business within own authority and in line with Ecclesiastical strategy
  • Support Senior Underwriters on Key Accounts.
  • Plan, prioritise and manage individual own work to deliver agreed objectives and meet SLAs to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Use the appropriate method of communication (telephone, face to face) to support Ecclesiastical's right first time approach in order to maintain successful Internal and External relationships.
  • Act on individual audit results and agreed action plans within agreed deadlines to improve own performance
  • Understand and operate within regulatory framework and identify and escalate any risks to the business.
  • Identify complaints and act upon them in line with company policy.
  • Actively expand personal technical and niche knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (Inhouse training, CII, CPD)
  • Supporting other members of staff in times of need by offering help and support.

Knowledge, skills and experience:


  • Ability to adapt to and embrace change in a growing company
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workloads to a high standard and work well under pressure
  • Ability to use Excel to an intermediate level
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Professional and confident verbal and written communication skills
  • A proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Experience within the insurance industry is essential, previous exposure to and understanding of Underwriting either within an MGA, Broker or Insurer.
  • Willingness to attend Broker/client meetings and events whilst promoting our appetite and brand.
  • Have a real "team player" mentality and lead by example
