ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an experienced UX Designer to spearhead the design of a brand-new web front end for mediSIGHT and the design of mobile apps to accompany the main product.

This is an exciting opportunity to join and play a key role shaping the future of our products.

You will champion user-centred design with our brilliant team of analysts and engineers here in Leeds and collaborate with fellow UX specialists across our parent group, Heidelberg Engineering.

As we seek to harmonise the UX across the breadth of our software products, you will influence the design of software used globally by the world leaders in the field of Ophthalmology.

Our UI design is challenging, for example displaying a high density of data, ophthalmic measurements and imaging on our subspecialty dashboards while ensuring the data remains easy to assimilate empowering the clinicians to make sight-saving treatment decisions quickly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Gaining a deep knowledge of our software products, user roles and journeys.
  • Evolving Medisoft's approach to UX design, advocating for usercentric, datadriven, iterative design.
  • Ownership of the creation of visual design concepts for the web products including establishing style guides and design patterns.
  • Working with a software engineer to create a UI toolkit that incorporates the design concepts outlined above and allows the product teams to rapidly develop user interfaces in a structured and consistent manner.
  • Documentation of the design concepts and standards that should be used by the product team when building user interfaces.
  • Responsibility for the design and requirements gathering and delivery of our new mobile apps.
  • Running workshops to ensure our design processes include UX/industry best practice.
  • Conducting usability research with customers and subsequently iterate the design if necessary.
  • Drive optimisation of user flows through our products.
  • Coaching teammates, including group and individual review and input into their designs.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the group to define shared style guidelines and UX patterns across our ecosystem of products and technologies.
  • Managing your own project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Consideration of and adherence to clinical safety processes.
  • Experience working as a UX designer in an agile software house.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; able to present complex scenarios with clarity.
  • Expert understanding of usercentred design fundamentals and practical experience of UX design, research methodologies and practices at each stage of the delivery cycle.
  • Experience educating stakeholders and team members in the value of UX design, especially when paired with Agile processes.
  • Experience of conducting usability testing and qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Expert user of design and prototyping software.
  • Able to work well alone and take own initiative.
  • Strong attention to detail and problemsolving.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and develop within the role as required.
  • Awareness of industry best practices and desire to innovate and adopt emerging design, UX and technology trends.

Desirable additional criteria:

  • Experience of UX design for healthcare software.
  • Experience working with software developers to create reusable components in React.
  • Bachelor's degree or above in design or a related discipline.
  • Experience of bringing mobile apps from concept to launch.
  • Experience of product localisation.
  • Experience of clinical risk management.

We do not expect knowledge of Ophthalmology, but we are looking for a quick learner who is genuinely excited about our products, our market, and how we can improve the practice of specialist eye care.

The post is based at our offices in Leeds, but occasional travel may be required.
