Description
Be Bold, Be Brilliant, Be Birmingham

Do you want to make a positive impact on the everyday lives of people who live, work, and grow in England's second city?

Are you a registered public health professional who thrives on innovation and collaboration with communities, faith leaders and community organisations?

Want to live and work in a city with a deep cultural history, a vibrant and diverse population, and an exciting new future on the horizon?
If the answer is yes, we'd love to hear from you.

Birmingham is a city on the move. The skyline is always changing and there's innovation and investment happening everywhere you look.

Our public health team have a key role to play in the transformation of our city and the Healthy Behaviours and Communities division is a vital part of that work.

This role is focused on reducing health inequalities across Birmingham's many communities - looking at everything from the food system of our city to how we create a mentally healthy city at every age and in every community.

Making an impact means building strong, long-lasting relationships both within the Council, and out in the communities we serve - working with partners across multiple community, public, academic and private sectors.

Through this collaboration, we co-create whole system partnership solutions to some of Birmingham's biggest public health challenges, building a brighter, more equal future for our residents.

Our leadership, nationally and internationally, creating a better food system in Birmingham, building deep collaborative explorations of racial inequalities and enabling citizen voice in our decision making, gives this role a unique perspective and requires a high level of political understanding to support our elected Members navigate often complex partnership landscapes.

Birmingham is home to people of all abilities and disabilities, and this role is at the heart of deepening our understanding of diversity.

We are ambitious to go beyond the shorthand of BAME, LGBT+ and disabled to truly understand our communities and their needs.

We believe in curious and compassionate leadership that considers diversity and inclusion at every stage of a project.

This means taking active steps to be inclusive and supportive of your team - tackling discrimination and helping them to be strong advocates and allies, both to each other and in their work.

Our senior officers nurture and inspire the people they work with - from experienced peers, right through to student and graduate interns.

We're committed to helping people navigate the evolving world of public health and that commitment extends to you too. We want you to be brilliant and bold so you can give your best to our city.

So that you are an ambassador for the Council wherever you go - championing our values and vision while acting as a voice for the people in our communities who need to be heard.

  • You must be on the GMC Specialist Register / GDC Specialist List or the UK Public Health Register. If you are not yet on these registers / lists, you must be able to provide verifiable, signed documentation that shows you are within six months of gaining entry at the date of your interview with us.
