Salary:
According to the National Police Pay Scales plus London Weighting and London Allowance. This post currently attracts a £3,000 per annum firearms payment.


Description of Department:


As an NFI you will support and develop new and existing Authorised Firearms Officers in a number of role profiles.

This includes the curation and delivery of bespoke training to the National Curriculum. We are a dedicated team who deliver exceptional training in force and collaboratively.


The Tactical Firearms Group provide the 24-hour firearms response to both spontaneous and planned operations in the City as well as supporting the Force in a number of other areas and across the Metropolitan policing area.

The City of London is the historic heart of London packed with history, commercial activity and culture.

The City of London has a demographic profile which is not replicated anywhere else:

a residential population of around 8,700 and over 500,000 as commuters arriving at their place of work daily and an additional 18 million visitors annually.


It has both a rich legacy of historic buildings and areas and a large number of iconic sites including St Paul's, the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, and the Gherkin.

Eligibility Criteria:


  • Internal applicants: ARV role profile with proven operational experience and training record.
  • External applicants:
  • Qualified as a National Firearms Instructor (NFI) accredited with a College of Policing Facility, with occupational/operational competency to ARV level.
  • Hold Lead Instructor status having delivered a minimum of 60hrs firearms training, completed firearms instructor CPD and having been assessed as competent in the previous twelve months; OR
  • Have held Lead Instructor status in the previous three years, and is willing to undergo reassessment prior to employment.
  • Attain the minimum national fitness levels
  • JRFT
  • Medically fit for role profile

Desirable criteria - Operational Firearms Commander (OFC), National Protection Officer (NPO), Advanced Driver, Firearms Tactical Advisor (FTA).
