The Role

Lancaster District is experiencing much interest in investment and development. The coastal, rural, and urban areas each have their own development and regeneration opportunities and challenges. Projects currently being explored and advanced include the Eden Morecambe project. The highly ranked University of Lancaster is a significant driver of the local economy and development activity.

We are looking for a Conservation Graduate who can contribute to the work of the team whilst developing experience in the challenges of conserving and enhancing this district's designated and non-designated heritage assets. The post holder will assist the Principal Conservation Officer and Conservation Officer in all areas of heritage conservation and the provision of specialist input into planning policy and development proposals.

This is an excellent opportunity for a heritage graduate beginning a career working with experienced colleagues in an environment with an extensive range of built heritage. There is a very strong track-record of career-development being achieved by previous Conservation Graduates working in this role with the council.

The post is permanent and full-time, 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. This is a hybrid role and would involve weekly attendance at the office and on site, combined with the opportunity for home working. You may be required on occasion to work outside normal office hours in accordance with the needs of the service.

About you

Candidates must possess an IHBC recognised degree in Historic Building Conservation, potentially, alternatively a degree in Architecture or History of Art and Architecture, or a closely related discipline. Applicants must be able to evidence how they would successfully apply their knowledge of heritage, legislation, and national policy in advising developers on behalf of the Council on the management of proposals affecting heritage assets.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to undertake site visits across the District. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data.
