Description

The BRHC provides a tertiary referral service for specialist care for children with underlying primary and secondary immunodeficiencies and complex infectious diseases in Bristol and across the Southwest Region.


The post holder will:


  • Assist the existing PID nursing team to ensure efficient running of clinics.
  • Provide phlebotomy services for PID patients in outpatient clinics and wards
  • Provide administrative support to the PID nursing team and wider team.
  • Provide advice and information to patients/families and be able to escalate any concerns appropriately
  • Provide advice and support in the safe and effective provision of medications at home
  • Maintain patient databases
  • Participate in audits, research and support service development i.e. patient questionnaires


The Assistant Practitioner will function at a higher competency level that that of other Health Care Support workers (Nursing/ Midwifery Assistants).

Work as part of the multidisciplinary team in a ward/dept., to provide a seamless service to patients. Remote supervision provided by the registered nurse (RN).

The Assistant Practitioner (AP) will provide general and or specific care for a group ofpatients. The post holder will work in support of RNs, midwives, doctors and alliedhealth professionals within an in/outpatient setting. The role is flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the clinical area. Supervision and teaching of junior staff willbe part of the role


The successful applicant will be required to have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a willingness to develop their knowledge in the specialist area of immunology and infectious diseases, working within the wider PID team which includes the OPAT and Vascular Access teams.

Relevant training such as immunisation will be supported to enable this.


In addition, there will be excellent opportunities for the successful applicant to be involved in research related to "Childhood Infection and Immunity".
