The role will include working across two main hospital sites of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital.

We also have the Aintree Hospital site that we work very closely with offering support to our colleagues and learners.


To maintain excellence in practice and to remain up to date with current best practice you will be required to work one full day clinical each week within the Theatre department.

This will include offering support to New Starters and Mentoring all types of learners ranging from Student Nurses to Student Operating Department Practitioners.


You will be required to support all staff that work in over 20 operating theatres covering all major specialities, including: Liver, Urology (including robotic surgery), Breast and Endocrine.

Renal Transplant, Upper G I, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary and Emergency surgery.

We also have 8 additional operating theatres at our Broadgreen Hospital site that facilitates the following surgery:
Urology, ENT, General and Elective Orthopaedics.

You will also be required to work across our two Hospital sites - Broadgreen and the New Royal.

As part of the Education Team you will also play an active role recruitment to theatres.


The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality multi-professional learning environments within the Trust and will be required to work locally within services where inter-professional learning opportunities can be provided.

The post holder will be required to support the breadth of the student experience, which may require cross boundary working.

Assessing the quality of practice learning environments; ensuring all service areas/ placement providers have up to date action plans in place.


Facilitating the development, and ensuring a sufficient provision of mentors/ practice supervisors across relevant service areas; providing supervision and support structures, building education in practice capability, consistency and efficiency.

Structuring and coordinating inter-professional learning activity across a service area(s).

Participating in single multi-professional site visits across organisations.

Developing and maintaining links with Education Providers to support mentors and practice supervisors.

Plan, design and deliver structured inter-professional learning in practice for healthcare students and mentors/ practice supervisors.


Contribute to the planning, delivery and review of multi-professional development programmes for mentors/ practice supervisors in order to meet the learning needs of different professional groups, and to ensure that the facilitation of inter-professional learning outcomes is included.


Identify opportunities where multi-professional mentorship and practice supervision can be facilitated in practice as a foundation for inter-professional learning to take place.

Produce and maintain a portfolio of education in practice activity within service area(s). For example, in house mentorship programmes, structured interprofessional learning activities, teaching packages.

Develop, implement and review education in the clinical and other practice learning environments in line with educational policy.


Support mentors/ practice supervisors to perform educational audits/ self assessments, and support mentors/ practice supervisors in the delivery of education action plans.

Undertake research and development relevant to mentorship/ education in practice and the clinical learning environment.

Assess the quality of learning environments against quality assurance standards, suggesting improvement measures to enhance the student learning experience.
