- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand the scope of work, materials requirements, and construction methods for civil engineering projects.
- Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs and material assessments for earthwork, concrete, steel, piping, utilities, and other components of civil construction projects.
- Utilise estimating software, spreadsheets, and historical cost data to develop comprehensive cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Analyse project risks, site conditions, and logistical factors to identify potential cost impacts and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to validate cost assumptions, solicit input, and ensure accuracy and completeness of cost estimates.
- Research market prices, material costs, and subcontractor rates to maintain current and accurate pricing data for estimating purposes.
- Prepare bid proposals, including detailed cost breakdowns, pricing schedules, and supporting documentation, in compliance with client requirements and procurement regulations.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to gather information and address inquiries related to cost estimates.
- Support project teams during the pre-construction phase by providing cost analysis, value engineering recommendations, and budget development assistance.
- Maintain organised documentation, including records of quantities, cost data, bid submissions, and post-bid analyses, to facilitate project tracking, reporting, and continuous improvement.
